Take the ferry from Algeciras Spain to Tangiers Morocco. Don't bother with Casablanca - all modern. Fes, Rabbat, Marrakesh, Sar el Souk, the Atlas mountains, then on to Algeria and maybe even Egypt. Nothing beats stepping of the ferry on 'the dak continent'. Nothing can prepare you for the true culture shock. You even have a choice of languages - Arabic or French.
